***************************************************************************************************** D E A T H C H A S E by James Kett for the RetroRemakes 2008 Competition www.retroremakes.com and www.retromasters.co.uk See end of readme.txt for competition sponsors Entry in Category 1 - RETRO REMAKES ***************************************************************************************************** This is a remake of the game 1983 ZX SPectrum game "3D Deathchase", originally written by Mervyn Estcourt and published by Micromega. This remake has been make using Blitz3D, Silo3D, AC3D, Paint Shop Pro 5 and Audacity. A development diary can be found in the main folder - "Deathchase Dev Notes.txt" ***************************************************************************************************** GAMEPLAY: The player commands a high-speed pursuit bike armed with twin forward-firing lasers. The game cycles between day and night patrols, and the player must destroy all enemy bikes on each patrol to proceed. The enemy bikes are somewhere in the trees so the player must travel fast enough to catch them up - they can only be destroyed once they are within firing range. The enemy bikes can lurk in any direction so the player will need to explore the area to find them. As the player proceeds through the day and night patrols the density of the trees will gradually increase. The player's bike will also be slowly upgraded so they can pursue faster enemies. The number of enemies the player will face on their patrols will also increase on the later patrols. The player can choose an appropriate difficulty level from the menu - Easy, Normal and Hard. The player's bike is capable of travelling much faster on the harder difficulties and therefore will require more skill to avoid the trees, but the scores awarded are higher. The player starts with 3 lives, shown by the 3 illuminated lights on the bike's dash - crashing into any of the trees will cause the player to lose a life. Once all lives are lost the game is over. ***************************************************************************************************** SCORING: All scoring is multiplied up according to the level the player has reached and the chosen difficulty. The player gains points by destroying the enemy bikes. The player can gain bonus points by destroying more than one enemy bike with a single shot. A score bonus is received for completing a level based upon the level number and the chosen difficulty. Firing a shot deducts 10 points so careful aiming and shooting gives a higher score. ***************************************************************************************************** HIGH SCOREs: The game has 3 seperate high-score tables for the Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties. If the player achieves a new high score they can enter their initials into the score table. Scores are saved to disk - to reset delete the file "highscores.dat" ***************************************************************************************************** CONTROLS: The player controls their bike using the mouse - - move the mouse left and right to steer - hold the right mouse button to accelerate, release it to slow down - left mouse button fires the lasers ***************************************************************************************************** AUTHOR: Game created by James Kett 2008 ***************************************************************************************************** Hello!
