Temple of the Ancients This document is classified confidential and vital to international interests. Review is strictly on a need-to-know basis. In May of 1998, while excavating a layer of shale for dinosaur fossils in the Black Hills of South Dakota, a team of archaeologists uncovered something most interesting. They found an artifact that experts concluded was of extra-terrestrial origin. Word got out about the find, and naturally, the U.S. military got involved. But the discovery had world-wide implications, and soon military experts from the U.K., Canada, Germany, Japan, France, Russia, China, and other powers were involved as well. Even countries such as Turkiye and Egypt, with extensive experience in archaeologic analysis, wanted a piece of the action. By 1999 the team had uncovered what could only be described as an alien Command Center. Quickly they adapted the facility to suit their military research activities, and discovered something even more fantastic. The facility had three "gateways", or Link-Ports as they were dubbed. These gateways apparently allowed travel at sub-light speeds between connected ports. Scientists did not understand the mechanics of this travel, but immediately realized that it was fraught with grave peril. The first "volunteers" that were sent through either did not return or came back as demented, zombie-like versions of their former selves. The problem was attributed to genetic destabilization and mutation, caused by the physics of sub-light transport. A year later an antidote was developed that reinforced genetic structure and allowed safe travel through, what was by then known as, the Slipstream. There appeared to be three known destinations from the Command Center, each tucked away in the Ural Mountains of Russia. One of them was a temple of seemingly human origin, but with distinct alien ciphers and symbols. All the sites had such ciphers, but the temple clearly held the keys to this mystery. It was while exploring the temple that they triggered an inexplicable and devastating phenonenon. Extra-terrestrial Life Forms (ELFs) mysteriously began porting into the temple and into the other destinations. They proceeded to destroy all that stood in their way. The ELFs were immediately classified as hostile, and the order was given to terminate them with extreme prejudice. A multi-national Task Force was immediately assembled, but under the utmost secrecy. Within a week of the alien assault, crack teams were sent in and the Command Center with its Link-Ports was sealed off to contain the ELFs within the Slipstream. Not long after, however, HQ lost complete radio and video contact with Command Center personnel. Colonel Lenny Spinks, who was spearheading the operation, decided to send in a Specialist to investigate. The mission was simple -- figure out what the problem was and fix it. The attached interactive holo-recording simulates the progress and outcome of the mission. This may be used as a training device, where the trainee assumes the role of the Specialist. Armed primarily with your wits and cunning, you too may accomplish the seemingly impossible task of eliminating the alien threat. Good Luck.
