The following messages were posted to the comp.sys.amstrad.8bit newsgroup giving permission from the copyright owner of Arnor software, Brian Watson, for the ROM images of some of their programs to be distributed for use with Amstrad CPC emulators. From brian@spheroid.demon.co.uk Wed Apr 15 22:10:31 1998 Newsgroups: comp.sys.amstrad.8bit Subject: ex-Arnor ROM images available for emulators From: "Brian Watson" Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 22:10:31 +0100 Hi, Mr Charity here. If someone would like to upload *all* the ex-Arnor ROMs as images for use in emulators to any or all of the usual sites, please do so with my/our blessing. It can go in the CSA8 FAQ too. Peter I would be happy to see them officially available for use that way. And yes, we know they *could* be reverse engineered to re-create real ROMs again. It doesn't mean "Blow CPC ROMS or pirate the discs with my blessing", because we (Peter Campbell and I) are trying to keep *them* supported for CPC/PCW users in a way which has frequently been thrashed out here but on which we hold a particular point of view. Even though it costs money to do it that way, that's the way we want to do it. Hope this helps, Ben and others. -- Brian Watson Driving an overpowered electronic rollercoaster down the road to Hell. From brian@spheroid.demon.co.uk Fri Apr 17 06:49:32 1998 Newsgroups: comp.sys.amstrad.8bit Subject: ex-Arnor ROM images and Protext book From: "Brian Watson" Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 06:49:32 +0100 The only versions we are seeking to keep out of the hands of those who would not do them justice (as we see it :-) ) are the PC, Atari and Amiga versions and the "real" CPC and PCW versions. That is to say, those which are supplied in forms in which CPC and PCW users can use them. We would see it as an infringement of copyright to supply, say, a .DSK image with a reference as to how to blow it back on to a 3" disc. Hey, we're just trying to be reasonable here. The argument is; as long as we are supporting the software for CPC and PCW users we don't want people screwing that up (legal term). So they are all still "in copyright" but permission is given (encouragement, even!) to use them as set out here. PC users who want to use and pass around electronically or on disk of any of the CPC and PCW versions of the programs in forms suitable for use in emulators are free to do so as long as they don't charge for them. Not even a handling charge. The only exception to this is if/when they appear on a compilation CD (as they cost a bit more) with at least 100 other programs. In this case a "reasonable" charge is acceptable. Protext v4 and upwards for the PC, Atari and Amiga may *not* be freely distributed as the first two are still commercial products (and we have "adequate" stocks of them), and the Amiga version may re re-released soon in an enhanced form. I hope this clarifies things and seems reasonable. It's meant to be. -- Brian Watson
