Introduction

Hello, and Welcome to the official XLnt-GUI User Guide.

Lets start at the start - what is XLnt-GUI I hear you cry? Well........XLnt is a set of add-on Functions for you to call from within your own BlitzBasic programs. If you don't know what BlitzBasic is then please take a look at their web site and consider downloading the FREE demo - its well worth it! Anyway, for those of you who are still here....XLnt allows you to incorperate complex Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) into your programs, which in turn allow the user to use your tools quickly and easily. Whats the point of this when Blitz is a games creation language? Well, all games need some sort of external Tools/Editors, and not everyone has access to VB or VC etc...and Hell, XLnt is my baby so sod ya! :)

XLnt started life (on the PC anyway) in Nov 00, with the first public release in Feb 01 . This met with great critical acclaim - hence the impressive 20 downloads off the (then) Blitz Showcase. Since that time XLnt has continued to grow at a steady rate - with new commands and features added at regular intervals - and gaining more loyal followers in the process. Infact, the only reason I continue to update XLnt is because of you 'orrible lot out there - so if you see any bugs, or want to request any features then get in touch with me....

Yappy

Hmmmm.. 2 Flavours!

At the moment the XLnt download contains 2 different sets of source files - one is for normal 2D GUIs and the other is a slightly (!) larger set of functions used to create Blitz3D GUIs. but fear not - most of the code is exactly the same, with just a few additions for the 3D lot amongst you.

Now enought of this banter - read the disclaimer then click the links on the left for more info......
